Letters to Santa

I finally got Megan to finish writing her letter to Santa. I think she started it about 5 days ago. And today we took them to Macys and Macys is donating a $1.00 to the "Make a Wish Foundation" for each letter that is mailed to Santa from their stores.

Sing Megan Sing!

Today at Megan's preschool was her Christmas Concert. She could not wait to wear her "Pretty Christmas Dress to school" The little girl standing next to her is Kennedy and the two of the are very good friends! She had a lot of fun and our personal favorite song here on Log Cabin Lane is "Chubby Little Snowman" Enjoy the video.

Snowman!

It has been a quite week here on Log Cabin Lane. One of the things that we do every week is go to our local library for "Story Time" and Miss Jo is great! She comes up with great crafts for the kids to do. Well this week we did an AWESOME craft!! It was a snowman!

She took one large men's sock and filled it up with horse feed, and about the middle of the sock we wrapped a rubber band around it to make the 2 "snowballs". Then we rubber banded that top so nothing would fall out. We folded down the "cuff" of the sock to make the hat. Miss Jo cut our scarfs out of felt and then 2 googlies eyes and of course the "Megan touch" the purple nose. We will be making one with Josh, but first we need to find some filling for our snowman. I was thinking maybe beans or corn for the filling.

Turtle Pumpkin Pie

I hope you are ready for another installment of "COOKING WITH JOSH". What we are going to make today is "Turtle Pumpkin Pie" And while we were making this we had a few technical difficulties, some we kept in the video and some were not. The one that I did not get on video is Josh eating a "SPOON FULL OF PUMPKIN-OUT OF THE CAN!!" The look on his face was priceless. And as you are watching please pay close attention to Megan licking with whisk over Josh's shoulder she is very funny! (I see film in her future!)
The pie is in the fridge right now, and I will have an update of it sometime tomorrow.

1/4 cup plus 2 Tbsp. caramel ice cream topping, divided
1 HONEY MAID Graham Pie Crust
1/2 cup plus 2 Tbsp. chopped PLANTERS Pecans, divided 2 pkg.
2 (3.4 oz. each) JELL-O Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding
1 cup cold milk
1 cup canned pumpkin
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg 1 tub
COOL WHIP Whipped Topping, thawed, divided Make It!

POUR 1/4 cup caramel topping into crust; sprinkle with 1/2 cup nuts.
BEAT dry pudding mixes, milk, pumpkin and spices with whisk until well blended. Stir in 1-1/2 cups COOL WHIP; spoon into crust.
REFRIGERATE 1 hour. Top with remaining COOL WHIP, caramel topping and nuts just before serving.

I Dusted off the Sewing Machine!!

Alright, so my friend Julie is going to have a baby girl (Reese Taylor) at the end of December. And when I was thinking about baby gifts, of course I thought of a "Pretty Dress" and something pink, but I wanted to do something a little more personal. So I broke-out the sewing machine and my shopping cart cover pattern. I made one about 4 years ago for Megan, and told myself I would never ever make one again. (I must really like you Julie!) So about the middle of October I started making it, well lets just say, I ended up trashing it! So back to the fabric store I go, but this time Don talked me into make one for a girl he works with. So now I have 2 to make. I can't draw in a straight line, how in the hell am I suppose to sew in a straight line!?!? So all in all I am very happy with how they turned out! Just don't look to close, I never said I was a seamstress! And isn't my model the cuties!

So I guess you can add shopping cart covers to my list of so called talents. The pillowcase dress is next, Megan picked out the fabric in the last photo for her dress, stay turned for that!

2 Little Pumpkins

We had a beautiful day here in Houston and I had the day off so Don and I decide when he got home from work we would take the kids to the pumpkin patch. But first we need to find a pumpkin patch that did not charge you to walk through their front door. That is right I said charge!! We found 2 of them, and they were about 30 Min's from us. When we got to the first one they just had about 3 dozen pumpkins sitting on hay bails. Nothing like rulfs orchard back in New York. So after I got the kids in the middle of the pumpkins and took a few pix, and we were walking away, I hear the owner say "DON'T STAND ON THE PUMPKINS" I looked at Don and said "I guess I got some people in trouble!" The 2ND place we went to was a little better, they had a path set up with place that you could take pix along the way. That is where we got out pumpkins. I touched up only a few of the photos, so enjoy!

"Super Star"

In Josh's Tuesday folder I got a little note that said he had been selected to be The Super Star for next week. We filled out a poster that asked questions about what Josh liked. I emailed Mrs Saunders and asked how they pick the student. She said that the office picks them and that he is the 1st from his class. Friday is the last day of the 1st quarter. So next week be on the look out for a report card update. FYI you can click on the photos to make them bigger.

Another Rough Week at the Alley House

Alright, lets just say it has not been a fun week here. I never go to bed before 10:30pm and on Tuesday I was in bed at 10pm and at 11:30pm Josh came in to my room and said he threw-up. So Don was with Josh in our bathroom and I went into his. Lets just say we got the carpet cleaner out. Josh stayed home from school on Wednesday. And Thursday we all went to school and about 2:45pm Megan said she didn't want to take a nap and then she said her tummy hurts. Well she had been saying that for the last 2 days (Josh was sick). She sat on my lap and then she let it all go. I really thought her head was going to spin around on her shoulders! Well let just say Don and I both were sick that night and I called in sick 2 work.(I only worked 2 days this week and called in sick for one of them) Today Megan is back to her old self.

UPDATE Just when I think we are all getting better Josh woke from little nap and how he is on the couch saying his tummy hurts.

Megan

As I was changing the background on the Blog, I realized that most of the updated have been with or about Josh. Megan has been doing a lot of coloring and "writing" with markers the last few days. She also has been writing her name and today she was asking me about spelling other words and did ask me how to write some of the letters. Then she showed me this!!

She did write some of her letters backwards and the drawings are crowns

Not a Fun Update!

So for most of the month of September someone in the family has been sick. Last Friday Josh said his ears were "blocked". And Saturday we took his temperature and it was 103.2 and since then he has had a low-grade fever. He has been going to school but when he gets home he crashes. Today I picked him up a little early from school and off to the doctors we went. A 3:20 appointment we did not see the Doctor until 3:50. He said that Josh has the FLU and if he is not better from the meds to bring him back on Monday. Well Josh is now on the couch with a 102.4 temp.

(i took the photo with my phone not the best)

And yes I will be making a cake, more than likely it will be a Halloween cake with some type of Princess on the top of it! So if you have any ideas for a easy and cute decorations please email me. And if you would like to come to Megans Birthday please RSVP us! Here are some of the cake I like.

A little Rain

We had just a little rain today, so when we went to check the mail the kids needed to put their rain gear on! I took a few photos. All Megan want was me to take a picture of her jumping in the puddle, but there was no puddles.

To veiw this photo you will need to click on it.

How to make Hummingbird Food

With Josh at School and Megan in Preschool we have not been cooking anything fun. Until today! Don saw a Hummingbird the other day, and Josh said "let get them some food." Josh wanted everyone to know how to make hummingbird food!

1st Day of Preschool!

Today was the day, Megan slept in to about 7:30, And her the first words were "Can she go to school today." When I told her yes, she wanted to leave right then! We had breakfast and upstairs to get dress. We were the 1st into the classroom, and as you can see Megan wasted no time going in! And she never looked back, well maybe to give Mommy and Daddy a hug! Now I am sitting on the couch in a very very quite house trying to get Don off his "facebook" to help me clean the house.

Meet the Teacher!

We got to meet Megans teachers on Tuesday. She will be going to the same preschool that Josh went to(checks can be made payable to "TAPS") she will have one of the teachers that he had, Mrs. Harris. Her other teachers name is Mrs. Marshall. And she will have 12 kids in her class. We start preschool on Thursday. What am I going to do with all the free quite time!

Cheese Sandwich

With Josh at school today Megan wanted to try her hand at making something. So she picked a cheese sandwich! Have fun trying to figure out what she saying!

1st Day of School

Well it was going to happen sooner or later, The 1st Day of School. I woke Josh up at about 6:30 am and he told me that it was still dark out! Well Megan, she made me carry her downstairs. So after pancakes and chocolate milk we got dress for school.

Then about 7:35am we made out way to the bus stop, which is a short walk(maybe 1/2 block) from our house. Where we found out that the little girl who lives behind us is in Joshs class also. Her name is Elizabeth.(You will c her in the video) Well the bus was a little late. Lets just say Josh was late for his 1st day of Kindergarten! After Josh got on the bus, Megan and I got in the van and waited for him in his classroom. We talked with Mrs. Saunders, she is very very nice, and Josh will have 22kids in his class.
At about 1pm I got an email from Mrs. Saunders "Josh is having a super day! We are resting right now and will be heading to music soon."
And it is 2:45 pm and Megan is sleeping, and the dogs are sleeping, and it is just too quite in the house!

Take Me Out To The Ball Game!

So the Astros have a ticket program going on,when you buy an Adult ticket you get a FREE kids ticket in the Upper Levels. So we got 4 tickets for $41.00. Good deal right, not really Megan could not fit into her old Astros shirt so she needed a new one, And of course Mama needed a new shirt too.($40.00). Then we had to eat dinner on the way down to the park,($17.50) and parking $10.00. And then ice cream and drinks at the park ($22.00) but we did get souvenir cup and ice cream bowls. Then there is the Blue Astros Baseball and Pink Astros Baseball for the kids ($17.00).

What does it mean to take a 3yr old and a 5yr old to the ball park. 3 trips to the bathroom, and to top it off one of those trips was durning "Take me Out to the ball game" Josh and Megan had been practicing singing that for 3 days! It was not until the bottom of the 8Th did Josh realize that he missed it!

Lets Dance!
